Hello Neighbors! 2024 was a great year here in North River Shores. We had some awesome events, made exciting new plans that will hopefully come to fruition in 2025 and ended the year with a great holiday party. Even though our snow partner didn’t come through this year, big thanks to Dave Weston for throwing a great holiday party with Santa, cookies, crafts and Tacos! It was great to see so many neighbors gathered and enjoying the event during the busy holiday season. 2025 will be another great year for NRS, with much needed boat ramp dock repair and expansion, more amazing events and other improvements.

Hold the County Accountable! – Brent Graeser

There are two important issues that directly affect our community, that we can, as a community, hold Martin County accountable to address – drainage/runoff and Pine Lake Bridge.

Drainage – there are many areas of NRS that do not drain well after storms. Martin County maintains our community drainage and needs to hear regular complaints from our residents to effect any change. While they have slowly started some improvements in our area – much more needs to be done. Please take pictures of problem areas near your property and reach out to Martin County at the following website.

https://www.martin.fl.us/DrainageComplaint

Instructions - To report a drainage issue concerning county-maintained property (swales/culverts), please select the "Submit a Request Help or Information" button below to submit your report. Please include the address and/or location of the drainage issue. You can attach your pictures in the request form.

Pine Lake Bridge – Martin County was planning to replace the bridge on Pine Lake Dr. starting this year. The bridge is very old and in need of repair. As well, they are planning to raise it to provide vessels more clearance to pass underneath, which is a great benefit and value to property owners past the bridge. There are rumors that the project has been delayed until 2029. Please contact our District 1 Commissioner, Eileen Vargas at evargas@martin.fl.us to inquire and help push the project back on original schedule.

Events and Social Committee – Erin Jenkins

Hello NRS Neighbors, One of the many perks of being a part of the NRS POA are the social activities we offer! Part of your fees are used for these events to bring us together, so we can get to know each other, build a stronger sense of community and have fun together! There is an annual Snow Party in the park every winter with food, drinks, music, snow and more! We have also started the tradition of an annual Easter Egg Hunt, which will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for details regarding this. We also plan to have a Fishing Tournament, Golf Event and Glow in the Dark Pickle Ball Social. We also need volunteers to help coordinate/set up/clean up, so if you are interested in helping with these events, please reach out to the Board.

WANTED!! Neighborhood Watch – Jimmy Pardinas

Hello fellow NRS neighbors! The neighborhood watch is in need of more volunteers. Being a member of the neighborhood watch does not take up much of your time. On average patrolling the

neighborhood takes about 30 minutes or less, once or twice a month. In most cases you patrol on your own schedule and document what you see if anything. At this printing our patrol has had some of our members move away or resign due to health reasons, so our numbers have diminished.

So Please, we need your help preserving the security of our community! If you can help us, please contact me at jimmypardinas@yahoo.com. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have and show you the duties required of each of our members. I look forward to meeting you all!

Stay Healthy NRS! – Brian Lelli

As a 40-year-old fitness enthusiast and father, maintaining my health is paramount—not just for my well-being but to keep up with my energetic kids. Living in North River Shores offers a plethora of opportunities to integrate fitness into daily life, ensuring I stay active while creating lasting memories with my family.

One of the community's gems is its four waterfront parks and the charming "Duck Pond." These spaces are perfect for morning jogs or brisk walks with or without my energetic kids and dog, providing scenic views that make exercise enjoyable. The serene environment not only enhances physical health but also offers a mental respite from daily stresses.

For strength and flexibility, I often utilize the open green spaces in our parks for bodyweight exercises, stretching, or even playful sessions of tag with my children. Engaging in such activities boosts my fitness and sets a positive example for my kids, instilling in them the importance of an active lifestyle.

The community's proximity to the North Fork of the St. Lucie River opens avenues for water-based activities. Kayaking or paddleboarding provides a full-body workout and an adventurous way to explore the local waterways. These activities are not only invigorating but also offer a unique bonding experience with my children as we navigate the gentle currents together.

Cycling through the neighborhood's scenic routes is another favorite pastime. The relatively flat terrain and picturesque views make it ideal for family bike rides. It's an excellent cardiovascular workout for me and a fun way for the kids to expend their energy.

Beyond the physical benefits, these outdoor activities significantly contribute to mental well-being. Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress and improve mood, which is essential for maintaining the energy and patience required for parenting. Moreover, by actively participating in these communal spaces, we strengthen our family's bond and foster a sense of community with our neighbors.

Incorporating the natural amenities of North River Shores into my fitness routine has been instrumental in maintaining my health and vitality. It's a blessing to reside in a community that not only supports but encourages an active and healthy lifestyle, allowing me to stay fit and fully engaged in my children's lives.

Q1 Scoop
